One of the trendiest colors of the year for interior design is gray. The color that used to symbolize dread and gloom now symbolizes elegance and serenity. Because we love the color so much, we decided to do two mood boards this week, each featuring a different usage of gray in the kitchen.
In the first photo, the kitchen has gray cabinets with white walls, countertops and a white fireclay sink. The white adds a cheery contrast to the cool gray, giving the room balance. The fireclay sink adds an unexpected pop of color, breaking up some of the strong gray color in the cabinets. It also blends perfectly with the white countertops. The polished chrome faucet also acts in the same way as the white sink, breaking up some of that white countertop with a pop of gray.
In the second photo, the usage of gray and white is reversed. The kitchen has white cabinets with gray walls, countertops and a stainless steel sink. Instead of having a bright, strong, all-white kitchen, adding gray helps tone down the room. The light and airy effect of an all-white kitchen still transfers over even with the addition of gray. We love how the stainless steel sink and appliances match the walls and create uniformity within the space, without taking away from the eye-catching white cabinets.
